Straight Dope book ad guidelines

To be eligible for the special rate, book advertising must conform to the guidelines below. To place a book ad, please call 1-866-946-5686 (toll free).

  1. Ads are available in the following sizes (see samples on this page):

    Leaderboards (top of page)     — 728x90 pixels
    Skyscrapers (left side of page)     — 160x600 pixels
    Rectangles     (right side of page)     — 300x250 pixels.

  2. The special book rate assumes your ad will appear without restrictions over a two-week period. You can purchase additional weeks of advertising if desired.

  3. For an additional fee we can provide special services such as placement on certain pages or showing your ad only to those living in certain geographic areas. We are also happy to accept non-book advertising. Please inquire regarding rates.

  4. We prefer that your ad link to the Amazon page for your book — we receive a small commission from Amazon for books sold this way. All dealings with Amazon are your responsibility.

  5. If you provide your own finished art, we can accept static or animated GIFs or JPEGs. We can accept flash files and rich media if accompanied by a backup GIF or JPEG. Maximum file size: 50KB.

  6. If desired, we can create an ad for you. The ads on this page show typical layouts, which may be varied to suit your needs. We reserve the right to charge a setup fee if you require an elaborate design, rich media, etc.

  7. We recommend that your ad include a picture of your book. You are responsible for providing the finished artwork for this picture.

  8. You are responsible for all copy appearing in your ad, including the accuracy of quotations.
